I have never been a big fan of Valentine’s Day. My dating life is . . . well, let’s put it this way; I don’t keep the gossip columnists up late at night. My work and family has been what consumed me so I haven’t made room for neither men nor dating.

Those were my choices and while I readily admit that fear of trust and intimacy may have been a factor, I would really like to change that and my view about Valentine’s Day. After all, what’s wrong about a day that celebrates love!

When you meet someone, someone special and there’s a connection, when you start sharing of yourself and when you start to feel that this person likes you and is interested in you just for you and you feel totally comfortable – and when the sparks start flying and you share intimacies; it’s worth a million bucks! There’s no other feeling like it in the world.

For the most part, I’m high on life. I love my work and my mission, I love my son, my granddaughters, and many who I come in contact with during the course of business, In this regard, I consider myself truly blessed. But I know consciously that if I were suddenly and unexpectedly shot by Cupid’s arrow, it would round out my life beautifully and add that other dimension that has been absent for way too long.

So my message is for all of you love birds who are just getting to know one another or have been in love for a long time. Be tender and loving with your mate. Show your affection in a multitude of ways. And try to be original.

I think where a lot of my anti-Valentine sentiment comes from is the bad restaurant food, poor service and over priced flowers. So avoid these more traditional things to do and come up with more original ways to show your love & affection like a hot air balloon ride. Or take a hike and commune with nature or go on a picnic or to the zoo.

Little love notes can go a long way. Do little things that are done from the heart. Don’t let those sparks die out. Love needs to be nourished just like a flower needs rain to grow and to blossom. And do these things not just on Valentine’s Day – do them on many other days throughout the month and year. Remember, there’s no other feeling like it in the world.

So to all of you love birds, I want to dedicate this song just for you:
