A person’s eyes reveal so much more about themselves than one would think. If you carry heavy emotional baggage; if you have unresolved problems or deep seeded unresolved hurt, your eyes will tell the story.

In a previous blog, I posted that with regard to the women who have come forward with accusations against Bill Cosby, just one look into their eyes and I knew. I could see the pain and hurt and shame. They have been carrying this inside of them for all those years and they haven’t been able to let go. But it’s all there to see – you can see it in their eyes.

In the aftermath of my horrific ordeal, the police gave me a ride to the home of a dear Persian couple where my son was staying. When he and his wife came to the door, I’ll never forget the look on his face; he told me that I looked like the shell of a body and that my eyes were hollow and black. This struck him because he said he always remembers me with expressive light bright eyes.

You can’t hide it. But it works the other way too. You can see the fear pain hurt cry anguish betrayal anger . . . but you can also see the soft pure kind sincere beautiful gentle caring compassionate as well.

Sister Ignacia comes to mind. She was one of my teachers in grade school and she had eyes of steel; what I mean it was such a steady gaze, yet soft and sincere as a feather breezing through the air with such gentle care concern and determination.

There are two women in particular that I’ve seen several times now at some of my speaking engagements and all I remember about them are their eyes. I was struck by the clarity and sincerity and compassion in their eyes. They were so pure and . . . yes beautiful. So anyway, I finally worked up enough nerve to go up to both of them afterwards and told them what I thought. They said no one had ever told them that before.

My dear friends, speaking of those telling eyes, I leave you with this quote: “If you think my eyes are beautiful, it’s because they are looking at you.”

With faith there is hope.
