Beyoncé is just another big name celebrity who joins the anti-cop bandwagon. During this past Super Bowl Sunday’s football game, both she and Bruno Mars were the featured entertainment for the half-time show. Sadly, she chose to make a political statement. She chose to go with a divisive, hateful, Black Lives Matter anti-cop theme.

The irony – and the hypocrisy – is that Beyoncé will not have any problems with the police. She’s rich and famous and doesn’t have to deal with police – – unless a police escort leads her into the Super Bowl arena … or she has a police detail for her personal protection. The irony is that the police support and protect entertainers and sports figures; they always have.

But is it the right message from her?

As a popular entertainer and role model, Beyoncé has tremendous influence and therefore a wonderful opportunity to spread a more positive message.  A message of hope … and healing. Not a message that further perpetuates mistrust and hate for the police. Beyoncé has hundreds of thousands – if not millions – of impressionable young people who look up to her as a role model. What good can come from a message that is a call for further violence and that further stokes the flames of racism?

As a woman who is rich and famous, and, as a Black woman who feels empowered, and, as a role model for millions of aspiring and creative youth, shouldn’t Beyoncé’s message be – Stay in school, stay off drugs, dream big and work your butts off so you too may realize your dreams one day? Shouldn’t her message be don’t point guns or knives at the police; don’t challenge them, treat them in a civil and respectful manner because you will have your day in court?

I am praying for Beyoncé and all the haters out there. I am also thanking the men and women of law enforcement for the daily sacrifices they make to serve and protect our communities. They do so much more good than they ever get credit for.

With Faith, there is Hope…
