To me, some things in life are just a “no brainer.”  Having faith in something bigger than yourself.  Treating others like you would like to be treated. And respecting the rule of law.  Unfortunately, we live in a time now where some of these “no brainer” concepts, or as most people refer to them, “common sense” are disappearing before our eyes.  As a result, our neighborhoods have become less neighborly, or children have become less respectful, and our sense of law and order is slipping away.

Who would have thought 10 years ago, that a victim’s rights organization like Crime Survivors would be competing for public funding with defendants’ rights organizations?  Who would have thought that our youth would have the lack of decency and disrespect to throw buckets of water on those who swore to protect us?  And who would have thought that I would have to write a blog to try and convince people to support a bill that supports law enforcement.  Unfortunately, that is where we are right now and that is what I must do.  So please, contact your Senators and tell them to vote yes on 1480, the Back the Blue Act.

The Back the Blue Act, 1480, creates new criminal provisions for those convicted of killing, attempting to kill and conspiring to kill a federal law enforcement officer a federal judge or a federally funded public safety officer.  Those convicted of killing would receive a mandatory minimum sentence of 30 years in prison and would be eligible for the death penalty. Those convicted of conspiring or attempting to kill would receive a sentence of 10 years.

Strong law enforcement is the foundation of any civil society.  In my world, law enforcement plays a vital role in not only protecting crime victims from further violence, but in providing hope that justice will be served, and life can return back to some kind of normal.  It is time that we as a community stop blaming law enforcement for our own shortcomings.  It is time that we stop demonizing them for simply doing their job.  And it is time that we stop putting them in harms way with no support or way to defend themselves.

Our men and women in blue are the true heroes in our community.  They are the sheepdogs that protect the flock from the wolves.  So once again, please click on the link below and let your Senator know that you back the blue and they should as well.  Let them know that it is a total “no brainer.” https://www.actforamerica.org/activism/back-the-blue
